Vives Codina, Josep

Callús, Bages 1931 - Barcelona 1993. Botanist

Since he was a child he was very interested in studying the plants, he was considered an enthusiastic botanist. When he was 14 years old, he was admitted to work in the Institut Botànic de Barcelona, without being paid.

Since then, he was one of the members of the botanical group directed by Dr. Font i Quer and also worked for the Institució Catalana d'Història Natural. He studied natural science at the University of Barcelona with Dr. Seró as his teacher in botany. He finished his studies in 1953 and in 1959 he got his Ph.D. degree with an exceptional recognition. Dr. Seró and Dra. Casas had a big influence on him towards briology. In 1953 he became a teacher in phytography and vegetal ecology at the science faculty of the Universitat de Barcelona. In 1960 he became Professor of natural science and stared to teach in a high school in Figueres and later in Barcelona. He was always collaborating with Catalan botanists until the end of his life.
