In 1929 he took care of the pharmacy established by his family in Manresa in 1787.
In 1931 he founded the Laboratorio Esteve, where he obtained D vitamin, considered the first artificial sulfamide prepared in Spain, and also vascular synthetic products. In 1966 he founded Industrias Químicas Esteve SA (INQUIMES) which are directed by his son, Josep Esteve i Soler. He was the president of the Acadèmia de Farmàcia de Barcelona and of the Societat Catalana de Ciències Físiques, Químiques i Matemàtiques, and vice-president of the Acadèmia de Ciències Mèdiques de Catalunya i Balears. In 1952 he became a member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, where he presided the science section.
