He studied natural sciences in Barcelona and San Miguel de la Cámara made him being interested in geology. He collaborated with Pau Vila during fifty years. He had a geology professorship in Granada.
He started to be influenced by the Netherlands geology school because its participation in the International Congress of Granada dedicated to Betic mountains, and he also started to collaborate with P. Birot . In 1943 he was nominated professorship of physic geography at the University of Barcelona, where he directed the geomorphology and geotectonics departments. He systematizated the geomorphology of Spain, the geography of Catalunya and occidental Mediterranean sea level oscillations defining and introducing new concepts. While he was a Professor in CSIC and in Institut d’Estudis Catalans, he trained important geologists and geographers like N.Llopis, E.Fontboté, O.Riba, C.Virgili, S.Llobet and J.Vilà. He was a member of the Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts de Barcelona and of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans. He was doctor honoris causa at the University of Montpellier and president of the Societat Catalana de Geografia (1976-80). He directed the journal: “Acta Geologica Hispanica” and collaborated actively with the Instituto Geologica y Minero.
