Urban engineer. He started his studies of Latin and Philosophy in Vic, and then he studied Mathematics and Architecture in Barcelona. In 1836 he moved to Madrid, where he joined the school of engineers and got his title in 1841.
As an engineer of the state he was sent to Teruel, Tarragona, Girona and Barcelona, where he finally settled in 1849.
Interested in the study of city planning, he focused his work in the problems of the reform and widening of the city of Barcelona, because the walls of the city had just been demolished and it represented a huge possibility of expansion.
In 1859 he got a royal order that approved his project to reform Barcelona.
