Alcobé i Noguer, Santiago

Barcelona 1903 - Barcelona 1997. Anthropologist.

He was Professor of anthropology at the University of Barcelona since 1941 and rector in the same university from 1963 to 1965. He was the director of the Centro de Genética Animal y Humana del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas.

His research in isolated populations of the Spanish Pyrenees, Occidental Sahara and Guinea Equatorial should be mentioned.

One of his greatest merits was to introduce Genetics and Statistics in the studies and research of the Science College of the University of Barcelona (none of these subjects was taught in the Natural Science career of that time, in 1941). He made that by teaching Genetics and Statistics in the first part of the subject of Anthropology, essential knowledges to follow the rest of the subject.
